Leo XIV receives Mons. Piero Pioppo in audience

The Vatican has published the list of audiences for November 24, 2025, among which stands out the reception of Mons. Piero Pioppo, Apostolic Nuncio in Spain and in the Principality of Andorra.

Pioppo has already announced activities for December 5, when he will preside over a reduced reception at the headquarters of the Apostolic Nunciature in Madrid. Three days later, on December 8, the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception —patroness of Spain— he will celebrate his first Mass in the Pontifical Basilica of San Miguel. The presentation of credentials to Felipe VI as a diplomat of the Holy See does not have a fixed date at this time.

His audience with the Pope takes place ad portas of his arrival in Spain, where he awaits a context of tensions due to the «resignification» of the Valley of the Fallen, the open debate on the compensation fund for victims of abuse, the pending processes related to investigations into the clergy, and, in the case of Andorra, the growing political and social pressure surrounding the legalization of abortion.

A day of audiences with strong international content

In addition to Pioppo, the Pope received the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze; the Prime Minister of Latvia, Evika Siliņa; and several bishops from Germany and Argentina. He also greeted the participants in the General Chapter of the Servants of Mary and a numerous national Latvian pilgrimage.
