Brazil: Rio de Janeiro incorporates the Municipal Week Against Abortion into its official calendar

The city of Río de Janeiro (Brazil) took a significant step in promoting the culture of life by officially incorporating the Municipal Week Against Abortion into its annual calendar. The regulation was published on November 11 in the Diário Oficial of the municipality.

The week will be celebrated every year from October 1 to 8, coinciding with the National Week of Life, promoted by the Church in Brazil to encourage the defense of human life from conception to natural death.

Raise awareness, dialogue, and defend life

According to the text of the law, the objective of this new municipal week is to raise awareness in society about the consequences and risks of abortion, a reality that affects thousands of women and that is often presented without adequate information about its physical, emotional, and spiritual impact.

The authors of the initiative—the councilors Rogério Amorim (PL-RJ), Carlos Bolsonaro (PL-RJ), and Diego Faro (PL-RJ)—state that the project seeks to offer a space for responsible dialogue about the causes that lead many women to consider abortion and the challenges they face.

It also aims to mobilize various social sectors, including civil organizations, health professionals, educators, religious leaders, and authorities, to work together on solutions that promote the integral well-being of women, avoiding abortion and offering real alternatives and support.

An advance for the culture of life

The incorporation of this week into Rio’s official calendar represents a significant advance for the pro-life movement in Brazil, by recognizing that the defense of life is not only a religious issue, but also a social one.
