Last day of Zornoza as bishop of Cádiz

Rafael Zornoza

Rome will accept on Friday the resignation of Rafael Zornoza as bishop of Cádiz and Ceuta

Vatican sources confirm to InfoVaticana that the decision will be announced this week.

InfoVaticana has been able to confirm through Vatican sources that the Holy See will accept on Friday the resignation presented by
Rafael Zornoza Boy as bishop of Cádiz and Ceuta.

Zornoza presented his resignation upon turning 75 years old, in accordance with canon 401 §1, and remained in the see awaiting acceptance. The decision comes in a context marked by the publication of testimonies and complaints about alleged abuses committed in the 1990s, when he was carrying out training tasks at the Getafe seminary.

The Vatican opened informational proceedings and the bishop suspended his agenda awaiting clarifications.

It is surprising that the Vatican acts with this speed following information from El País about something that has been known in Spain for more than 20 years.
