For the first time, the Committee of the Pontifical Mission Societies (OMP) in Jordan has organized a national meeting under the motto “From the Holy Land to the world: pilgrims and missionaries of hope”. The event was held at the end of October at the Our Lady of Peace Center, with the participation of religious congregations, youth groups, and scouts from various regions of the country.
According to the Fides Agency, the meeting, marked by an atmosphere of faith and fraternity, was inaugurated with the Eucharist presided over by Father Koubrianos Hanna Koubrianos, national director of the OMP in the Holy Land. Subsequently, Father Ibrahim Nino, parish priest of Fuheis, gave a spiritual conference on the meaning of the Christian mission in the contemporary world.
Throughout the day, the participants took part in moments of prayer, reflection, and dialogue, as well as in the screening of short videos showing missionary experiences from various parts of the world. Group sessions were also held to share testimonies and strengthen apostolic commitment.
Inspired by the words of Pope Leo XIV on the occasion of the recent World Mission Day, the attendees delved into the call to be witnesses of the Gospel even in the midst of difficulty.
“The meeting has been a small beacon of hope,” affirmed Father Koubrianos. “In a delicate context for this region, we have rediscovered that the mission begins with those closest to us, extending a hand and bringing Christ. This first step marks the beginning of a path that we entrust to the Lord.”
A sign of faith amid instability
The OMP meeting in Jordan acquires particular relevance for being held in a land marked by the tension and pain of the Middle East. There, where so many Christian communities struggle to survive, this simple gesture becomes a testimony of hope and perseverance. Gathering young people, religious, and laity under the motto of the mission means proclaiming that the Church remains alive and active in the cradle of Christianity.
The message resonates strongly: evangelization does not stop because of difficulties, but strengthens in them. As the meeting’s motto reminds us, “from the Holy Land to the world”, the mission begins in the places where Christ walked, but extends to all humanity. In times of confusion and violence, the missionaries of hope are those who keep the light of the Gospel burning.
