The parish priest of El Álamo appears semi-naked on Instagram and the bishop of Getafe does not consider it relevant

The parish priest of El Álamo, belonging to the Diocese of Getafe, has generated scandal and deep disappointment among his parishioners after it spread that he appeared on gay contact apps and maintained a public Instagram account under the username @morenazo0378, in which he shared messages and photographs inappropriate for his priestly condition.

In said account, the parish priest published phrases like “no more singledom, there is the curriculum” or “marital status: living life 100%”, along with images in underwear and suggestive poses, which has caused scandal in a community where exemplary testimony is expected from the priest, especially in a parish with children and adolescents.

The priest has acknowledged being the owner of the Instagram account, but claims that someone stole his photographs and used them to create profiles on gay dating apps. However, his attitude towards the parishioners has been defiant, going so far as to justify the images and publicly reproach those who consider them inappropriate for a priest.

Infovaticana has consulted the Diocese of Getafe on several occasions about this matter. However, no apparent measures have been taken beyond asking him to delete the content. However, the parish priest himself has stated that “the bishop did not think there was sin in the photos” and that, therefore, he will continue with his pastoral ministry.

As of October 19, the priest remains in charge of the parish, which has increased perplexity and discomfort among many faithful.

Infovaticana has endeavored to act according to the Gospel maxim, addressing the Diocese on two occasions and providing the necessary information to avoid the scandal. Not having received a response nor observing serious corrective measures, we consider it obligatory to publicly inform about this fact, with the firm conviction that dioceses and bishops must raise the moral and pastoral bar for those called to be examples for the faithful.
