Gambetti presides over reparation rite in St. Peter's after desecration of the main altar

Following the incident that occurred last Friday in which a man urinated on the altar of St. Peter’s Basilica, and the reprimand from Leo XIV to perform an act of reparation, Cardinal Mauro Gambetti, archpriest of the Basilica and vicar general of the Pope for Vatican City, presided yesterday, October 13, over a solemn rite of reparation at the main altar of the Vatican basilica.

The ceremony included prayers of reparation and a penitential liturgy to restore the dignity of the profaned altar.
