The bishops of India celebrate a 'transgender' professor at a Jesuit university

The portal Catholic Connect, the official media outlet of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of India (CBCI), celebrated the hiring of a man who identifies as a “transgender woman” as a professor at the Jesuit Loyola College in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

In an interview published on October 2, the episcopal media described the incorporation of N. Jency, a biological male who presents as a woman, as a “milestone” and a “transcendental moment for transgender representation in higher education.”

The text also qualified it as an “agent of change” (changemaker) and praised his role in promoting special quotas for students who identify as transgender.

Loyola College and Gender Ideology

Jency, activist of the “Transgender Rights Association” in Kolathur, obtained a doctorate in English literature and was hired as an assistant in the English department of Loyola College, an institution managed by the Society of Jesus.

According to Jency himself, the Jesuits have openly supported students who present as transgender, offering between 7 and 12 free spots each year. “Any transgender person who wants to study is welcome,” he declared in the interview.

The regional government chief, M.K. Stalin, also publicly congratulated Jency for his academic achievements, further elevating the ideological weight of the case.

Contradiction with Catholic Doctrine

The enthusiasm shown by an official body of the Indian bishops contrasts with the constant teaching of the Church. Sacred Scripture teaches clearly: “God created man in his image… male and female he created them” (Gn 1,27). The Catechism of the Catholic Church reaffirms that the human being must accept his sexual identity as a gift from God.

Cardinal Raymond Burke has repeatedly denounced gender ideology, calling it a “attack against reason and nature”, because no manipulation can alter a person’s biological reality.

The Episcopal Conference issued no statements on the matter. The institutional silence in the face of a clear case of contradiction with the Catholic faith only deepens the confusion of the faithful, who expect from their pastors the defense of revealed truth and not the promotion of ideologies foreign to the Gospel.

The Applause of the World or Fidelity to Christ?

The public exaltation of a “transgender” professor at a Jesuit university and in media outlets of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of India constitutes a grave sign of the penetration of gender ideology even in Catholic institutions.

The contradiction with the Church’s magisterium is evident: while the faith teaches the truth about the creation of man and woman, some ecclesial structures seem to prefer the applause of the world to fidelity to Christ.
