Days after Pope Leo XIV accepted his resignation from the pastoral government of the Prelature of Juli amid allegations and questions about sexual and financial scandals, Mons. Ciro Quispe López published a farewell statement addressed to the faithful of this jurisdiction in the Peruvian Altiplano. The text was disseminated on October 2 on the official profile of the Prelature of Juli by the Apostolic Administrator, Mons. Giovanni Cefai, Mssp.

In his message, Quispe recalled that he presented his resignation letter on September 20 in Rome and that the Holy Father accepted it, leaving the government of the Prelature in the hands of Cefai on September 30. He thanked God, the Virgin of the Immaculate, and the peasant communities for the nearly seven years of service, highlighting the ordination of more than 20 priests, the formation of 4 permanent deacons, 7 seminarians, and the arrival of three new religious congregations.
The emeritus bishop also acknowledged having lived a ministry marked by difficulties and denounced that, against his will, he was the object of defamations and media attacks that—he said—divided the people. He pointed out that his retirement is his own decision, although he regretted the effects of what happened on the community.
In a penitential tone, he asked for forgiveness for the errors committed “due to inexperience, but not due to bad faith”, and asked the faithful to pray for him and accompany the new apostolic administrator, the fifth in the history of the Prelature of Juli.
He concluded his message by inviting to live this time of transition in prayer and humility, remembering that, although he retires from pastoral government, he will continue praying for the community entrusted to him.
