Brazil inaugurates the world's largest statue dedicated to Our Lady of Fátima

According to Aciprensa, on November 13, a monumental tribute to Our Lady of Fatima, 54 meters tall, will be inaugurated in the Nossa Senhora de Fátima neighborhood in Crato (state of Ceará, Brazil). The ceremony will include a Mass presided over by the Bishop of Crato, Mons. Magnus Henrique, at 5:00 PM.

After the liturgical celebration, the event will feature musical performances by Sister Kelly Patrícia, founder of the Instituto Hesed, and the priest and singer-songwriter Fr. Fábio de Melo.

Marian Monument and Jubilee of Hope

The inauguration of the statue is part of the celebrations for the Jubileo de la Esperanza 2025, in a joint program of the Diocese of Crato and the local mayor’s office. To commemorate the event, the diocese has organized the Jornada Mariana Diocesana, which will take place from November 10 to 13 with the pilgrimage of the image of Our Lady of Fatima through parishes, hospitals, and various institutions.

Crato and its Strong Bond with Fatima

The alcaldía de Crato recalled that the local devotion to Our Lady of Fatima is deeply rooted in its history. 72 years ago, the city received the visit of the pilgrim image that arrived from Portugal, which consolidated Marian devotion among its inhabitants.

At that time, the newly inaugurated airport was consecrated to the Virgin. After its closure, the land housed the first monument to the patroness. Since then, other spaces such as schools, daycare centers, streets, and a neighborhood have received her name in homage.

From 45 to 54 Meters: The Largest Statue in the World

In 2014, Crato inaugurated a 45-meter statue that was, until then, the largest in Brazil dedicated to Our Lady of Fatima. Now, with the new construction of 54 meters tall, the sculpture not only surpasses the national record but has become the largest Marian image in the world.

The monument is located in the Santuario de Nuestra Señora de Fátima, which also includes a replica of the chapel of the apparitions in Fatima, Portugal. This space seeks to establish itself as a center of pilgrimage and a Marian reference at the international level.
