Pope Leo XIV sent a telegram of condolence to Charles III of England on the occasion of the funeral of Her Royal Highness Katharine, Duchess of Kent, held on September 16. In the message, published by the Bulletin of the Holy See, the Pontiff expressed his spiritual closeness to the British monarch, to the royal family and in a particular way to the Duke of Kent, children and grandchildren of the deceased.

I was saddened to learn of the news of the death of Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Kent, and I send my most heartfelt condolences, together with the assurance of my closeness in prayer, to Your Majesty, to the members of the Royal Family and, in a special way, to her husband, the Duke of Kent, as well as to her children and grandchildren in this moment of sorrow.
Entrusting her noble soul to the mercy of our Heavenly Father, I gladly join all those who raise thanks to Almighty God for the Duchess’s inheritance of Christian goodness, manifested in her many years of dedication to official duties, to the patronage of charitable works and to the devoted care towards vulnerable people in society.
To all who mourn her loss, in the firm hope of the resurrection, I gladly impart my Apostolic Blessing as a pledge of consolation and peace in the Risen Lord.
